1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for strawberry puree)
1 teaspoon water (for strawberry puree)
1 teaspoon matcha powder
2 tablespoons hot water (for dissolving matcha)
1 tablespoon simple syrup (adjust to taste)
1 cup plant milk (oat or almond recommended)
Ice cubes
Make the strawberry puree: Combine strawberries, sugar, and 1 teaspoon water in a small blender or food processor. Blend until smooth.
Prepare the matcha: Whisk the matcha powder with 2 tablespoons of hot water until fully dissolved and frothy.
Assemble the drink: In a tall glass, add ice cubes. Pour the simple syrup over the ice.
Add the strawberry layer: Spoon the strawberry puree gently over the ice and syrup.
Add the milk: Slowly pour the plant milk over the strawberry layer.
Create the swirl: Slowly pour the dissolved matcha mixture over the milk layer. The density difference will create the pink and green layers.
Serve immediately with a straw.
Notes
For a sweeter drink, increase the simple syrup amount.
Use oat milk for the creamiest texture that mimics coffee shop drinks.
To get the best swirl for photos, pour the matcha slowly over the back of a spoon placed just above the milk layer.
