Make these classic, rich Kentucky Bourbon Balls without turning on your oven. This simple recipe uses vanilla wafers and pecans for a decadent, boozy treat perfect for holiday gatherings or gifting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups crushed vanilla wafers
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar, plus extra for rolling
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup bourbon (Jim Beam recommended for flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Place the crushed vanilla wafers, chopped pecans, 1 cup of confectioners’ sugar, and cocoa powder into a large mixing bowl. Stir these dry ingredients together until they are well combined.
  2. In a separate small bowl, mix the bourbon, honey, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet mixture over the dry ingredients. Use a sturdy spoon or your hands to mix everything until a thick, uniform dough forms.
  4. Roll the dough into small, one-inch balls.
  5. Place extra confectioners’ sugar in a shallow dish. Roll each bourbon ball in the sugar until fully coated.
  6. Place the finished balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Chill the bourbon balls in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving. These are best served cold.

Notes

  • You can substitute rum or whiskey for bourbon if desired, but bourbon provides the traditional Kentucky flavor.
  • For a different finish, roll the chilled balls in extra cocoa powder instead of powdered sugar.
  • These boozy holiday treats keep well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
