Make this refreshing, layered strawberry matcha latte at home. This quick recipe uses simple ingredients to create a vibrant, café-style drink that tastes better than store-bought.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1 teaspoon high-quality matcha powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot (not boiling) water
  • 1 cup milk (oat milk recommended for creaminess)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the strawberry puree: Combine the strawberries, sugar, and 1 teaspoon of water in a small blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. If using fresh strawberries, you may need to mash them well.
  2. Prepare the matcha: In a small bowl, sift the matcha powder. Add 2 tablespoons of hot water. Whisk vigorously with a bamboo whisk or a small electric frother until the matcha is smooth and slightly frothy, with no clumps.
  3. Assemble the strawberry layer: Place 2 to 3 tablespoons of the strawberry puree into the bottom of a tall glass.
  4. Add ice: Fill the glass almost to the top with ice cubes.
  5. Add the milk: Pour 1 cup of your chosen milk (oat milk works well for the creamy texture) over the ice, leaving space at the top for the matcha.
  6. Create the layer: Slowly pour the prepared matcha mixture over the milk. The difference in density will help create the desired pink and green layered aesthetic.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade iced strawberry matcha latte.

Notes

  • For a vegan strawberry matcha, use oat milk or almond milk.
  • If you want a sweeter drink, add a small amount of simple syrup to the milk layer.
  • To achieve the best layers, pour the matcha slowly over the back of a spoon resting just above the milk surface.
