Make these soft and chewy Christmas sprinkle sugar cookies for your holiday baking. This one bowl recipe requires no chilling time and comes together quickly, making them perfect for cookie exchanges or family fun.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles (red, green, white jimmies)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until just combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and sea salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined into a soft dough. Do not overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the Christmas sprinkles until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each ball.
  8. Gently press down on each dough ball with the bottom of a glass or your palm to flatten slightly into a cookie shape.
  9. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers remain soft.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra festive cookies, roll the dough balls in extra sprinkles before flattening them.
  • If you prefer a slightly crisper edge, bake for an additional minute, but watch carefully to keep the centers soft.
  • Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
