Make this easy Caramel Apple Dump Cake with only four ingredients. This recipe delivers warm, gooey apple pie flavor with minimal effort, perfect for fall gatherings or a simple weeknight dessert. Includes instructions for both oven baking and slow cooker preparation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup caramel bits or chips
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) if baking. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Pour the entire can of apple pie filling into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread it out evenly.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apple pie filling layer. Do not stir.
  4. Scatter the caramel bits or chips over the cake mix layer.
  5. Slowly drizzle the melted butter evenly over the entire top layer, covering the cake mix and caramel as much as possible.
  6. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  7. For the slow cooker method, lightly grease a 5-quart or larger slow cooker insert. Layer the ingredients exactly as described above (apple filling, dry cake mix, caramel bits, melted butter).
  8. Cook on low for 3 to 4 hours or on high for 1.5 to 2 hours, until the topping is set and golden around the edges.
  9. Let the dump cake cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute the yellow cake mix with a spice cake mix.
  • If you do not have caramel bits, you can use 1/2 cup of caramel sauce drizzled over the cake mix before adding the butter.
  • This dessert is excellent served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
