Ingredients
Scale
1 medium head green cabbage, shredded
4 slices bacon, cut into pieces
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
Place the bacon pieces in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until the bacon is crisp. Remove the bacon pieces with a slotted spoon and set them aside, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.
Add the sliced onion to the hot bacon grease. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the onions soften.
Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet. Stir to coat the cabbage in the grease.
Sprinkle the salt, pepper, and garlic powder over the cabbage. Toss everything together.
Cook the cabbage, stirring occasionally, for 8 to 10 minutes until it becomes tender and starts to wilt. You want some edges to brown slightly for extra flavor.
Stir in the apple cider vinegar and the reserved crisp bacon pieces. Cook for 1 more minute.
Remove from heat and serve this easy cabbage recipe immediately.
Notes
For a smoky flavor, use smoked paprika instead of garlic powder.
If you do not have bacon, use 2 tablespoons of butter or olive oil for cooking the cabbage.
This side dish works well with low carb cabbage recipes goals.
