Make this rich and creamy boozy hot chocolate using bourbon for a decadent, warm winter cocktail perfect for cozy evenings or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup bourbon (or Baileys Irish Cream)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings for topping

Instructions

  1. Combine the milk, heavy cream, chopped chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk the mixture constantly until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and hot. Do not let it boil.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  4. Stir in the bourbon and vanilla extract.
  5. Taste the mixture and add a little more sugar if you prefer it sweeter.
  6. Pour the boozy hot chocolate into mugs.
  7. Top each serving with whipped cream and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings.

Notes

  • For a Baileys Irish Cream hot chocolate, substitute the bourbon with 1/2 cup of Baileys.
  • If you want a richer chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate instead of semi-sweet.
  • Set up a hot chocolate bar with toppings like marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, and different liqueurs for guests.
  • This recipe makes a great after dinner chocolate cocktail.
